The University of Liechtenstein has established a new professorship for architecture and urban planning with effect from January 1, 2023. With the appointment of Michael Wagner, who specializes in sustainable urban design and spatial development, the university is seeking to expand its competencies in these core topics.

Michael Wagner has been appointed Professor for Architecture and Urban Design at the Liechtenstein School of Architecture with effect from January 1, 2023. With this appointment, the University of Liechtenstein is strengthening its competencies in its core issues of spatial development and sustainability, particularly in connection with design and planning in the Alpine Rhine Valley region, further details of which can be found in a press release issued by the university.

Michael Wagner won out following “a competitive appointment process” against high-profile, experienced international applicants. The appointment committee was particularly impressed by his forward-looking, sustainability-oriented research experience and practice-oriented teaching approaches, not to mention the high level of teaching competence and infectious enthusiasm that Wagner will also bring to the table.

In recent years, Wagner has taught at the University of Liechtenstein and at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH), where he headed up the “Kulturlandschaft” research group from 2012 to 2018. Since 2018, Wagner has been a lecturer in urban design in the Department for Architecture at ETH Zurich. Together with Raphael Vanzella, Wagner also runs an architecture firm.
