Year-on-year decline in unemployment
In January, the number of people without jobs in Liechtenstein fell year on year. However, there was a slight rise in unemployment when compared with December 2018. The same trend was observed for youth unemployment.
According to figures from the Liechtenstein Job Market Service (AMS FL), the number of registered unemployed in Liechtenstein was 356 as at the end of January 2019. When compared with the previous month, this equates to an increase of 31, though unemployment fell by 16 year on year. The rate of unemployment increased by 0.2 percentage points against December 2018 to 1.8 percent, but was down 0.1 percentage points on the previous year.
For youth unemployment, an increase of one on the previous month was recorded, bringing the number to 43 for January. However, the number of unemployed young people has fallen by 14 when compared with January 2018. The rate of youth unemployment was down 0.7 percentage points year on year to 1.9 percent.
In the age group between 25 and 49, the number of registered unemployed in January was 213, down four on January 2018. In the group aged 50 plus, unemployment was up two on the previous months to 100. At 842, the number of vacancies reported to the AMS FL 842 was down 96 on the previous year. In January, 26 companies reported short-time work due to economic circumstances or weather conditions to the AMS FL.
