Preparations for the Rätikon International Nature Park project are in the final phases. In addition to the ten municipalities in Graubünden, all eleven municipalities of the Principality of Liechtenstein are involved as well as nine municipalities in Vorarlberg.

Subject to approval by the ten municipalities in Prättigau, the Rätikon International Nature Park is to be established from 2022. They will make the decision at the start of March 2021. According to a press release from the Prättigau/Davos region, the management plan was able to be pushed forward mostly as planned even during the lockdown. The first draft is now available. It will now be synchronized with the various interested groups.
If one of the municipalities votes yes then it is in, if no then it isn’t, meaning that one municipality cannot be overruled by another: The overall result is not decisive. After the municipalities, canton and state have agreed, the nature park will initially be established for three years. The municipalities would have to agree on definitive operation from 2025 to 2034.
The planners are convinced that nature, agriculture, culture, industry, education, and tourism will receive a long-lasting benefit from the park. A website has been specially set up campaigning for a yes vote for the Rätikon Nature Park. Additionally, according to the press release, a support committee has already formed with personalities from across the entire valley.
The project activities have also been promoted over the border in Liechtenstein and Vorarlberg. The processes were quicker over there as a popular vote is not necessary. All parties involved want to start jointly from 2022. Put together, the 30 municipalities from three countries cover an area of over 1,100 m2. This would make the Rätikon Nature Park the largest in the Alpine region.
