Hilti emphasizes digitalization and globalization in its vocational training
Hilti is strengthening its emphasis on digital skills in its vocational training, while also offering apprentices both business and technical English. Twenty-three new apprentices began their training in August in seven different speciality areas.
According to Remo Kluser, head of vocational training at Hilti, it is “still not that easy to convince school graduates to embark on a technical course of vocational study”. This is why Hilti has decided to strengthen its “emphasis on important topics in a changing professional world: digitalization and globalization”.
At the beginning of August, twenty-three youth began an apprenticeship in seven different speciality areas at Hilti. Beginning in the first year of training, they will see “much more automated manufacturing technologies, such as 3D printing and scanning, the deployment of augmented reality and simplified forms of programming”, according to a press release from the Liechtenstein-based tool manufacturer.
The youth will also have access to a newly created “open space room”, where they can acquire skills in electrical engineering and mechatronics. Proven components of vocational training, such as accepting responsibility and developing entrepreneurial thought and action, remain central aspects of the training. In addition, business and technical English are being introduced “with an eye toward globalization”.
“This is also aimed at reducing any apprehensions in advance of working abroad at other Hilti locations,” said Kluser. “We want to make a point of more strongly promoting this as a possibility once the trainees have concluded their studies.”
