Innovation competition inspires new ideas from schoolchildren
An innovation competition launched by the University of Liechtenstein this year sought ideas for products that would be useful in the era of coronavirus. Four groups of schoolchildren were selected as prizewinners. The winning team came up with an idea for choosing the right clothing size when shopping online.
Due to the pandemic, the University of Liechtenstein was not able to invite schoolchildren to discover the university and its bachelor’s degree programs in architecture and business administration on campus as usual this spring. A planned seminar on the topic of innovation was therefore quickly changed into an innovation competition, as the university explained in a press release. The competition was seeking ideas for a product or service that could significantly improve lives in these times under coronavirus restrictions.
Around a dozen groups of schoolchildren reportedly took part in the competition. Each group submitted a video of no more than five minutes explaining their idea. On 1 and 14 June, the University of Liechtenstein selected the winning teams.
First place was awarded to a group of three girls from HAK Lustenau. They presented an idea for a suit with sensors that could be used to buy the right clothing size when shopping online. The two teams placed joint second were also all girls, this time from BWS Bezau. Their ideas were an online platform for getting to know people from afar and an app with activities that are rated by other users, complete with chat room for making friends. Third place went to another group of girls from BWS Bezau for their idea of a learning platform for schoolchildren. All the winning videos can be found on the University of Liechtenstein’s website.
