Liechtenstein’s fiber optic network is among best in the world
Liechtensteinische Kraftwerke (LKW) has received the European Broadband Award 2022 for its expansion of the broadband network. All households - including SMEs and industry - will be connected to the network by the end of 2022.
Liechtensteinische Kraftwerke (LKW) has received the European Broadband Award 2022 for its large-scale fiber optic expansion, as was reported in a press release. This award by the European Commission is a testament to the leading international position of the broadband infrastructure.
Gerald Marxer, CEO of Liechtensteinische Kraftwerke, explained their award-winning FTTB build up project in a video . This aims for everyone in Liechtenstein to be connected to the fiber optic network by the end of 2022, including SMEs and industry. So far, 20,000 households have been connected to the broadband network, with the target being 25,000. The network is available to all internet providers under the same conditions.
The telecommunications provider received the award in the “demand generation and take-up of connectivity” category. The other categories are “innovative models of financing, business and investment”, “cost reduction measures and co-investment”, “socio-economic impact in rural and remote areas” and “quality and affordability of services”.
The European Broadband Awards is an event that recognizes outstanding broadband deployment projects in Europe and highlights successful infrastructures.
