Agroecology.science, a recently founded institute for agroecology has presented its first flagship project in Vaduz. It is intended to raise the profile of the people behind Liechtenstein's sustainable food production as well as building a direct bridge to consumers.

Agroecology.science (ae.s) has developed a concept for the promotion of sustainable nutrition and food production in Liechtenstein. The independent institute for agroecology, which was founded 18 months ago and is based in Frick in the canton of Aargau, presented its first flagship project on Monday at a media conference organized by the Lebenswertes Liechtenstein foundation in Vaduz. Its chairman is Prince Max von und zu Liechtenstein.

The young scientists headed up by President Prof. Dr. Dr. Urs Niggli are committed to agroecologically sustainable nutrition and agriculture. According to information in a press release, the aim of this project is to increase the visibility of the people behind food production in Liechtenstein, thereby forging a direct link between production and consumption.

The focus is on the newly founded Feldfreunde association. In addition, Bionetz and the agro-ecological production system for pasture cattle “Liechtensteiner Weiderind” were launched on this occasion. Bionetz is an association of farmers that aims to promote site-specific production processes.

The project managers intend to make consumers aware of the importance of sustainable agriculture. Urs Niggli explains: “Sustainable agriculture is only possible if people eat sustainably as well”.
