LKW increases annual profit
Liechtensteinische Kraftwerke (LKW) successfully increased net profit in financial year 2019 despite recording a slight decline in revenue. A total of approximately 2.7 million Swiss francs was paid out to the Liechtenstein state from LKW’s net profit totaling 8.9 million Swiss francs.
According to a press release issued by LKW, “low electricity procurement costs on the spot market above all had a positive impact on the financial result” in the prior year. The company was therefore able to increase net profit year on year from 5.91 million Swiss francs to a total of 8.88 million Swiss francs “despite the increased investment and expenditure across many areas”. Revenue at LKW actually declined slightly across the same period, falling from 89.83 million Swiss francs to 88.92 million Swiss francs.
Overall, in the year under review, LKW supplied 402.0 gigawatt hours of electricity. The company’s private customers have benefited “for several years from the stable, consistent energy prices”, the press release explains. Price alterations on the energy market are not passed on to household customers. According to the information provided, the company “fares well with regard to the costs for electricity and network fees in a regional comparison”.
In the same press release, LKW commented on the progress of the expansion to its fiber optic network. In this context, LKW states that the degree of expansion as at year-end 2019 represents an increase of nearly 20 percent in comparison with the previous year. “With a total of 11,176 connections, equating to an expansion level of 53.9 percent, Liechtenstein clearly leads the way in international comparison”, LKW concludes in the press release.
