Oerlikon Balzers has developed two new coatings that protect the components of sanitary fittings, pumps and valves against wear. Both coatings can be applied at low temperatures and to heat-sensitive materials.

The new BALINIT MILUBIA coating has been specially developed for “ceramic seal discs in taps, pneumatic valves, ceramic shafts and pump bearings” Oerlikon Balzers writes on its website. According to the Liechtenstein coating specialist, the microstructure coating is suitable for metals and electrically insulating materials such as ceramic. On account of a low coating temperature of less than 100°C, BALINIT MILUBIA can be applied to heat-sensitive materials such as plastic.
The new BALINIT NALUBIA coating is designed to minimize the wear of seals at high temperatures. Oerlikon Balzers explains in the product description that this coating “is exceptionally hard with a very low coefficient of friction”. It is therefore especially suited for “applications where components are exposed to excessive heat generated by high friction”. A coating temperature of less than 100°C is also sufficient for BALINIT MILUBIA. The application areas specified on the website include mechanical seals in pumps and compressors. BALINIT NALUBIA also effectively prevents overheating thanks to its excellent dry running coefficient.
