This quarter, operations are set to commence at three cross-border labs based in the Lake Constance region that covers four countries overall. With the participation of OST - Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences, the labs will focus on developing and implementing solutions in the fields of mobility, the circular economy and sustainable digitization.

Three laboratories located in the Lake Constance region focused on the future-relevant topics of mobility, the circular economy, the Internet of Things (IoT) and sustainability are to be given the green light in the second quarter of this year. Universities from all neighboring countries and practice partners will join forces to cooperate at these labs. At the end of June, an official opening ceremony will be held at the Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences (FHV). According to a press release, OST - Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences will be involved at all three labs.

The labs were applied for and approved by the EU regional program Interreg VI Alpenrhein-Bodensee-Hochrhein (Interreg ABH) and the Lake Constance Arts & Sciences Association. Interreg ABH is providing financial support to the tune of around 11.7 million euros. The labs are designed not only to spur innovations, but also to implement them in the long term. Ultimately, this should serve to enhance the region’s innovative strength and competitiveness.

The Institute für Strategy and Marketing at OST is Lead Partner Switzerland for the Mobility Lab (Overall Lead: FHV). A total of six universities and eleven practice partners are involved. Cross-border research here will aim to reduce the current complexity of mobility in the Lake Constance region.

The Institute for Organization and Leadership at OST is working on circular solutions for two industries of central importance to the region, namely the textiles sector and the argi-food industry, at the Circular Lab (Overall Lead: University of St.Gallen (HSG) and FHV). The long-term aim here is to develop a platform for knowledge transfer beyond the duration of the project.

The Institute for Information and Process Management at OST is the project partner for the IoT & Sustainability Lab (Overall Lead: HTWG Konstanz - University of Applied Sciences). The research focus here is the use of IoT technology in smart buildings.
