On the occasion of its anniversary, the University of Liechtenstein has awarded the Honorary Senator’s Degree to Michael Hilti, the former chairperson of Hilti AG. Helmut Heiss, a professor of law at the University of Zurich, received an honorary doctorate.

Michael Hilti, the former chairperson of Hilti AG and now its honorary president, has been awarded the title of Honorary Senator of the University of Liechtenstein for his services to the “educational landscape of the Rhine Valley and, in particular, the University of Liechtenstein”, according to a press release.

In his speech accepting the title, Michael Hilti said that he would continue to support the university in the future. Hilti is motivated by his conviction that “progress requires a symbiosis between business and science, as well as a productive transfer of knowledge”.
Helmut Heiss, a professor of private law, comparative law and international law at the University of Zurich, was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Liechtenstein for his “outstanding services to the University of Liechtenstein and the Principality of Liechtenstein”. Franceso Schurr from the Institute for Business and Law at the University of Liechtenstein thanked Heiss in particular for founding the Center for Liechtenstein Law at the University of Zurich in 2011.

On the occasion of the anniversary of Dies Academicus – University Day, the University of Liechtenstein also awarded its CHF 10,000 prize for early-stage researchers, which this year went to assistant professors Alexandra Butterstein, Ferdinand Thies and Leona Kruse.
