The University of Liechtenstein has been chosen by U-Multirank as one of the 25 best universities worldwide for international co-publications. Both the researchers and students benefit from the university’s openness to the world.

The University of Liechtenstein explains in a press release that U-Multirank is an independent ranking prepared with seed funding from the European Commission’s Erasmus+ program. In the performance lists compiled by U-Multirank, the University of Liechtenstein has been chosen as one of the 25 best universities worldwide for international co-publications. All leading universities in this category collaborate with foreign co-authors on at least three-quarters of their publications. “For the University of Liechtenstein, this top position at U-Multirank confirms its adopted strategy of gaining international prominence through select research areas of relevance for the region,” said Nicolas Raschauer, Prorector of Research at the University of Liechtenstein.

Being placed in the top group has qualified the University of Liechtenstein as an “open border university”, the press release reports, stating that such universities are more successful when it comes to engaging and transferring knowledge or patenting their ideas. Their research also shows a higher outreach and students at open border universities are “more satisfied with their overall learning experience”. “U-Multirank’s data proves that universities are stronger when they collaborate internationally, while nationalism only endangers them,” commented U-Multirank joint project leaders, Frans van Vught and Frank Ziegele.
