The University of Liechtenstein has appointed Lindsay Blair Howe as an assistant professor for the Institute of Architecture and Planning. The appointment should ensure that core topics including society, planning and responsibility are strengthened.

Lindsay Blair Howe is the new assistant professor (tenure track) at the Institute of Architecture and Planning at the University of Liechtenstein. Howe beat off competition from 51 international rivals during the selection process, details of which can be found in a press release issued by the university. She is due to take up her post on April 1. “With the establishment of an assistant professorship for architecture and society, the University of Liechtenstein is consistently strengthening the priority topics of society, planning, and responsibility, which are anchored in the university's ownership strategy and development planning”, explains Klaus Tschütscher, President of the University Council, in the press release.
The assistant professorship provides a platform to work on issues at the interface of architecture/planning and economics. These include the quality of life and location appeal of Liechtenstein, climate change, demographic change, innovative forms of mobility and digitalization.
“I am delighted about the interdisciplinary enrichment for the Institute of Architecture and Planning and the entire university”, comments Rector Ulrike Baumöl on the appointment of Lindsay Blair Howe. The US national has worked at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) over the past few years, while she has also carried out work related to her research focus in socio-spatial inequality and interactions between global urbanization processes in addition to local processes of spatial production at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, in South Africa.
