Virtual mirror offers a preview of new smile
A software application from Ivoclar Vivadent based on augmented reality can display the results of cosmetic dental treatment in a virtual mirror beforehand. It will now be integrating an orthodontic app from 3Shape.
The IvoSmile app of Liechtenstein dental company Ivoclar Vivadent uses augmented reality for the real-time visualisation of cosmetic treatment options. In a live video, the new teeth are placed over the patient’s own. It is almost impossible to distinguish between the virtual teeth and the real ones, even when the individual turns their head or speaks. The software was developed by Kapanu, a spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) which was taken over by Ivoclar Vivadent around two years ago.
Ivoclar Vivadent has now signed a partnership with 3Shape, a Danish developer of solutions for the dental and audio industries. 3Shape has created an orthodontic app that can simulate the intended results. This is being integrated into IvoSmile in order for the treatment goal to also be visualised in the patient’s mouth.
“IvoSmile is an impressive consultation tool, which involves patients, triggers an emotional response and significantly improves treatment acceptance,” explained Michael Taube, Chief Marketing Officer at Ivoclar Vivadent. “We are delighted that this partnership with 3Shape means we are now able to offer this technology in orthodontics alongside our app for restorative dental corrections.”
