R&D companies in Liechtenstein
Liechtenstein is a hub of research and development. There are more than 600 manufacturing companies in the Principality of Liechtenstein, employing around 40% of the workforce. As well as many small and medium-sized enterprises, the country is also home to around a dozen global players.
Access to Switzerland and the EEA is of key importance for companies in Liechtenstein. This is a unique position within Europe and a huge opportunity for local businesses, which invest around 8.4% of GDP in research and development. This results in high-quality innovative products.
Supporting research
Liechtenstein has its own National Contact Point for Research and Technological Development (NCP) aimed at strengthening the Principality’s position as a hub of high-tech research and development. Other important elements in this respect are participation in EU research programmes, technological development and demonstrations, financial support for the University of Liechtenstein and, last but not least, close cooperation with research institutions in neighbouring countries.
Research and development drive the economy and prosperity in Liechtenstein. They help to ensure the autonomy and independence of what is one of the world’s smallest countries.
