Construction on the up in Liechtenstein
The number of construction projects and the investment earmarked for this purpose increased significantly in the first quarter when compared with the previous year. This growth is primarily due to more projects in housing construction.
In the first quarter of 2019, a total of 101 building permits were granted in Liechtenstein. This is 21 more than in the same quarter of the previous year. The number of new buildings increased from 28 to 36, while permits for alterations were up from 52 to 65. These findings are taken from the latest Construction Statistics published by the Office for Statistics (AS).
For projected construction costs, the report presents growth of 44.5 percent over the same period to 109.1 million Swiss francs. The lion’s share of 93.8 million francs is earmarked for investment in residential projects. Investment in this area was up 149.0 percent year on year. In industry and service, the projected construction costs at the same time declined by 69.3 percent to 9.9 million francs.
Overall, 97.7 million francs was intended for the realization of new construction projects. Investment of 11.5 million francs was attributed to building alterations. Building area of 105,600m2 was approved for housing construction, which is 205.1 percent more than in the same quarter of the previous year. The approved building space for industry and service at the same time declined by 88.6 percent to 10,900m2.
In a breakdown by contracting entity, the report highlights six publicly funded construction projects with a total value of 6.4 million francs. Private contracting authorities received permits for 95 construction projects in the first quarter of this year, worth 102.7 million francs in total.
