The Philately Liechtenstein has launched a postage stamp that can be stored in a blockchain data room. Its authenticity can be verified via an app, which also offers access to information such as the serial number and history of the postage stamp.

The Philately Liechtenstein has issued a postage stamp that can be stored in a blockchain data room, according to a press release issued by Liechtensteinische Post AG. Known as Briefmarke 4.0, the new postage stamp is designed to serve as a “bridge between the analog and digital world”, it states. A digital application linked to the blockchain postage stamp can be used to verify its authenticity in addition to accessing information such as the serial number, history and collectible appeal of the stamp.

With the authenticity check, each individual stamp can be clearly assigned to the person who owns it, the press release explains further. This is particularly important for collectors, as the serial number provides them with proof of possession of a unique item. The Briefmarke 4.0 postage stamp with a face value of 5.20 Swiss francs is available to buy in selected post offices and from the Philately Liechtenstein online shop. The 3,200 units of a special edition of the stamp that comes in a high-quality box have already sold out, Liechtensteinische Post AG writes.

The new crypto postage stamp is not only valid for use when posting mail and forgery-proof to boot, but also “interactive and exciting” due to the connected digital application, the press release claims. In specific terms, the postage stamp is linked to puzzles via which the collectible item in the form of a postage stamp can be explored. Anyone who solves all the puzzles on a digital journey throughout the Principality can also store the collector's item and record their puzzle success in the blockchain.
