Vlinder supporting blockchain-based mangrove project
The impact tech start-up Vlinder has contributed its blockchain expertise to facilitate the launch of Mangrove DAO on December 10. This blockchain-based decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) is seeking to develop innovative ways of financing the reforestation of damaged mangrove areas in Myanmar.
Using its expertise in the area of blockchain, Vlinder has facilitated the launch of Mangrove DAO on December 10. Vlinder, an impact tech start-up from Austria and Liechtenstein, has taken on the role of technology and tokenization partner for this initiative. It has now restructured in the form of a DAO and intends to continue financing the reforestation of damaged mangrove areas in Myanmar.
DAOs are an effective and secure way for people to work together with other like-minded strangers around the world, ethereum.org explains. DAOs have no central authority and take decisions on a collective basis. All community rules are built into their blockchain code, which is completely transparent for all parties involved. Rules can only be changed and money spent through voting.
The initiative was first established in 2017 and has already sponsored the cultivation of 212 hectares of mangroves. In the wake of the initiative’s restructuring in the form of a DAO, Vlinder migrated its Bitcoin blockchain with the current TREE coin to the Polygon blockchain, where the TREE token can be exchanged one for one for a MANGROVE token. The Mangrove DAO token represents a mangrove tree that was planted in the Thor Heyerdahl Climate Park in Myanmar. A total of 8 percent of all CO2 credits that the mangrove project receives from 2022 will be transferred to the Mangrove DAO.
According to Sergey Ivliev, Mangrove DAO “perfectly fits Vlinder’s mission of empowering people to act on climate change”. The co-founder of Vlinder adds: “The idea to unlock funds for climate projects and democratize impact investing inspired us 6 years ago as we pioneered natural asset tokenization. Today we are proud to assist in bringing the TREE coin initiative to a new technological and governance level”.
