More than nine in every ten companies have assessed the general economic landscape at the end of the first half of 2021 as good or satisfactory. No fundamental changes to the situation are expected during the current quarter.

Once per quarter, the Liechtenstein Office for Statistics (AS) asks executives from companies operating in the industrial and service sectors for their views on the current economic developments and expectations for the future. In the most recent survey at the end of June, 40 percent of the respondents described the general economic landscape as good, according to the AS in its publication covering the survey.

A further 56 percent of respondents assessed the situation as satisfactory, while just 4 percent continued to bemoan the poor economic performance. For the first time since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the companies assessed the general situation as largely good again, according to the publication. For the evaluation, the companies were weighted according to their number of employees.

For the current quarter, the general expectation is that the economic situation will not improve further, the analysts explain further in the publication. However, according to them, companies are predominantly anticipating a “stable development” with regard to business performance, while no changes are expected in connection with staffing levels.

For the most recent edition of the business survey, the AS evaluated the responses of 69 companies from the industrial and service sectors. In terms of employee numbers, the companies surveyed account for 70 percent of the industrial sector and 25 percent of the service sector.
